in 2017, Flagstaff Shelter Services partnered with Catholic Charities to form Front Door, a community-wide collaborative that serves as an intake and referral program that helps people in crisis quickly find access to the resources they need to find stability.

The Front Door Program uses real-time data from the annual Point in Time survey to zero in on our community’s most pressing needs so it can:

  1. End lengthy stays in homelessness for families and individuals
  2. Inform community funding decisions
  3. Eliminate duplication of services
  4. Use precious financial and community resources while potentially providing leverage for new funding opportunities

Here is the Flagstaff Resource Guide. This just goes to show you that FSS is a part of a big initiative to coordinate case management across agencies to better serve our clients.

Front Door Program with Flagstaff Shelter Services

How It Works

By design, the Front Door program helps people experiencing homelessness (or those at imminent risk of becoming homeless) reduce time waiting for assistance or avoid homelessness altogether.

People in crisis can visit Flagstaff Shelter Services and be assessed for eligibility for all services provided across the Coconino County Continuum of Care, including emergency shelter, transitional shelter, homeless prevention services, rapid re-housing services, permanent supportive housing, veteran-related homeless service providers, coordination of domestic violence homelessness issues, and more.

Every Flagstaff Shelter Services client will be assigned to a housing case manager who will assist in securing permanent housing and provide guidance and support along the way.

Meanwhile, each client will also have daily access to basic services as well as healthcare, counseling, and more.

Thanks to the Front Door Program and its partners, Flagstaff Shelter Services has helped thousands of people within the region gain access to critical, life-saving services and moved hundreds of out of homelessness for good.
